Alabama bill bans abortion after detectable heartbeat

Alabama lawmakers are mulling over a bill that would “forbid the procedure if a fetal heartbeat can be detected” (AP). A representative said that since the lives of people with a heartbeat are protected, the lives of the “unborn” should be protected as well.

Most people will say that this goes against the Supreme Court’s finding in Roe v. Wade, that abortions are permitted until the fetus can  survive outside of the womb, usually around 24 weeks. A heartbeat can be detected as early as six weeks using a transvaginal ultrasound.

In 2013, North Dakota passed a bill similar to the one begin proposed. It was blocked from taking effect because it violates Roe v Wade.

There are other abortion bills that are gaining national attention as well.

To me, its simple. If you don’t support abortion then don’t get one.
