Listen, and feel the beauty of your separation,
the unsayable absence.
There is a moon inside every human being.
Learn to be companions with it.
Give more of your life to this listening.
As brightness is to time,
so you are to the one who talks
to the deep ear in your chest.
I should sell my tongue and buy a thousand ears
when that one steps near and begins to speak.
— Jalal al-Din Rumi
Listening is a beautiful thing. People always say to stop and smell the roses, but they forget to stop and listen to the birds sing. Listening is key.
To listen is to absorb knowledge. You don’t acquire wisdom by speaking when others are talking. Those that are truly wise are attentive. They listen to other’s opinions and give attention to them. You cannot make informed decisions without first taking other’s views into consideration. This is the key to International Women’s Day. Women all over the world are still oppressed. Female circumcision is still common in some parts of the world; many women still cannot vote. The troubled fact is that women are still not paid equally to that of their male counterparts, women still are not represented in equal numbers in business or politics, and globally women’s education, health and the violence against them is worse than that of men. Imagine what the world could be if everyone took the time to listen and to attain knowledge. Perhaps the violence and derogatory view against women could be ended.
Subtle degrees of domination and servitude are what you know as love but love is different; it arrives complete just there like the moon in the window… ~Rumi
To listen is to love. Courage comes from the heart, as does love. There is a root in common to both. It takes courage to be you in a world that wants to control, dominate and judge.
