Friday, March 8th is International Women’s Day! This holiday began in the early 1900s and has been gaining momentum ever since. Women do not have equality in many parts of the world, and even in the United States. While women have the right to vote and other democratic rights in the US, they still make less than men per year on average. With the debates surrounding abortion and contraceptives, it is important to keep women’s rights in mind.
The month of March is Women’s History Month. This month is to honor the women who marched on Washington 100 years ago to demand their right to vote. It’s to honor female veterans from the Korean and Vietnam wars. It’s to remember the contributions on women in history.
Stay tuned throughout the month of March to hear the amazing stories of the women who helped shape history.
ASpoonfulofSuga and I will be doing a collaboration throughout March regarding the thirteenth century poet Rumi, and the role that women played in much of his writings. I’m really excited about this, so keep reading!
