Students suspended for a year

The students who drove bus monitor Karen Klein to tears earlier in June have been suspended for a year.  They will be sent to a non-school facility where they will be tutored academically. They are also required to complete 50 hours of community service with senior citizens and will receive formal behavioral training.

Disney offered Klein a trip to Disney World in California and Southwest Airlines volunteered to pay for flights for Klein and her eight grandchildren. She was also given a free week-long vacation to theHilton Sandestin Beach Golf Resort in Florida. An online appeal for donations to Klein topped $650,000 earlier this week.

What do y’all think of the kid’s punishments? Too strict? Not strict enough?

  2. I don’t think the punishments WEREN’T strict enough, but I wouldn’t complain if they were worse! I read the “What if this was your Grandmother” post, and was so terribly sorry for that poor woman, especially becuase the boyfriend of a very close friend of mine comitted suicide a few years ago, and subjects like that are just so raw. When it was her own son? Oh, that must have been terrible!
I’m glad she got so much support from people, and that she got something really nice for all the pain she must have gone through. I wonder though, if she ever got that apology?

    • I’m glad she got support as well! Having someone to lean on in tough times always helps, even if they are people from across the country. And yes, she did get an apology! I recently read an article saying that the boys, along with their parents, apologized.

      • Goodness, yeah, the parents of those kids must have been mortified! I mean, bad parenting is one thing, but it’s not like you train your kids to do that!? (well, who knows?)

      • I don’t know, I’ve seen a lot of kids who lack home training, but surely these kids learned some kind of manners at home. It had to have been even more embarrassing since it went viral so quickly!
